A Nationwide Team Watching Every Step

At NorthStar Ambulance Service, safety isn’t just a keyword, it’s a culture that runs through everything we do. From our Operations team to our frontline ambulance crews, every member of staff is trained to uphold the highest safety standards. We go beyond basic compliance by delivering internal safety training for all personnel and using our Safety Management System (SMS) to monitor, report, and continually improve our practices.
At NorthStar Ambulance Service, safety starts on the ground. It begins with comprehensive training for all employees through our Safety Management System (SMS), covering regulations, risk factors, and risk assessments. Our teams work closely with crews to identify potential risks before every journey, allowing us to implement effective mitigation strategies and ensure the safest possible patient transport.

At NorthStar Ambulance Service, our Operations team supports every trip from start to finish. Each trip is monitored 1:1, from departure to arrival, ensuring assistance is always available whenever needed. Our team can also help with last-minute transport bookings, making sure we’re there wherever you need us to go.
All NorthStar Ambulance Service personnel are fully trained to nationally recognised UK standards and operate under strict clinical governance. Our team members hold up-to-date qualifications in first aid, patient transport, and emergency care (depending on their role), and undergo regular refresher training, enhanced AccesNI/DBS checks, and ongoing professional development. We also follow Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) and Regulatory and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA)-aligned best practices to ensure patient safety and high-quality care at all times.
All ambulances used by NorthStar Ambulance Service are procured from trusted UK suppliers and meet Department for Transport and HSCNI/NHS vehicle specifications. Each vehicle undergoes regular safety inspections, preventative maintenance, and servicing in line with DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) requirements. Vehicles are fitted with medical-grade equipment appropriate for patient transport and emergency care, and are cleaned and disinfected after every use in accordance with infection prevention guidelines.
NorthStar Ambulance Service holds comprehensive insurance, including public liability, employer’s liability, and professional indemnity (medical malpractice) cover. This ensures that both patients and staff are fully protected in the unlikely event of an incident. Our policies meet or exceed UK legal requirements and industry best practice for independent ambulance providers in Northern Ireland.
Safety is embedded into every part of NorthStar Ambulance Service’s operations. Our approach includes:
By maintaining these systems, we ensure that patient care is delivered in a safe, reliable, and professional manner at all times.
